Esittelyssä yhteistyökumppani – Turun kaupunki

Tärkein osa Hub Turkua on yhteisö ja yhteistyökumppanit. He kaikki tuovat  omat taitonsa mukana Hubin yhteisöön. Tämä tekee Hubista entistä mielenkiintoisemman paikan työskennellä. Tänään esittelemme yhteistyökumppanimme Turun kaupungin, josta kertoo Anri. Toivomme Hubin ja Turun kaupungin yhteistyön jatkossakin yhtä hedelmällisesti.

Mikä on tämän hetken inspiraatio/kohde/ajatus?

Keep up the good work!

Meet the Hubbers: Andres Fossas

Meet Andres Fossas

Who are you?

My name is Andres Fossas. My full name is Spanish: Andres Fossas de Frutos. Frutos means fruits, but it may (or may not) have been a town or a village where some of my ancestors lived.

What are you?

I’m a psychologist and currently have 3 different jobs. In the first job, I look into the kinds of culture that different companies have. For the second job, I do research about adult maturity and how we grow in adulthood. The mind continues to grow if we give it the right conditions, and I study how that works. I have worked around the world. On top off all this, I also teach meditation.

Your interests?

One thing I try to do in my life is to combine my interests and my work. I am deeply interested in adult maturity, meditation and being with my 4 month old child Vincent.  I am also interested in virtual reality.

Your talents?

I like getting to know people and I think I am naturally curious about people. Talking to people has become easier over time. I was shy in high school and my brother pushed me to take acting classes and it helped. I really enjoy understanding what is driving people deep down, below conscious awareness, and helping people to understand what they’re good at.

Love story of Hub Turku

Good question. I moved to Turku in last August when my wife was pregnant. I was terrified at first, because the Finnish culture was just so different than anything else I had experienced. But, in the middle of that, I needed to find some motivation to continue working on my own as an entrepreneur. Normally I worked in coffee shops but that becomes difficult to do over time since it’s a lonely environment. I was happy to find a space where there was a community and social support. I found Hub Turku on Facebook and went to visit. It was love at first sight. I just started coming. Hub Turku is an emotional home for me, particularly because it gave me a sense of grounded-ness in this new country. Being able to speak with other people and being in community, that alone has great value.

Your character

The MBTI personality test has told me that I am an extrovert. I get a lot of energy by talking to other people, though I also enjoy focusing on really deep things.  I like to think of different possibilities, and I have studied happiness. I like to think about invisible things or imaginary things I’m not that into concrete things and I don’t enjoy getting my hands dirty. And though I am relatively unorganized, I’m also very curious.

You are delighted, when…

I am having personal conversations and people open up. When Vincent laughs, and when I am relaxed too. Meditation helps with that.

You get annoyed, when…

I don’t say what is truly on my mind. When I feel something strongly and I don’t speak up, or when I disagree with my wife. Also long lasting back pain annoys me!

What makes you stop being angry

Self-compassion. When I get really upset I seek out time on my own. I often tell myself I did my best and try forgiving and being kind to myself.  Meditation helps me when I am pushing myself too much. If I have an issue with other people, it helps me to be honest with them and express my feelings and what is really on my mind.

If you were a superhero what would your superpower be?

By touching people they slowly would start to see the parts of themselves that they have been suppressing or rejecting. Most of us have been told too many times while growing up: don’t do this or that. That is how we develop shame, when we think there’s something wrong about ourselves. For example, many guys are told they shouldn’t show emotions like sadness or sensitivity. And that can cause serious internal problems for the person. We need to rediscover those hidden things in ourselves, the things we’ve suppressed, and face the difficulties in our lives.

Meet the Hubbers: Juho Vainio

The most important part of the HUB Turku is the community and its members. They all have different skills and personalities, which makes the HUB an even more exciting working place. Today we are introducing Juho who also is a member of the Hub board. Come and meet us also in face to face. We will welcome you with a smile!

Meet Juho

Who are you?

My name is Juho Vainio and I’m a native Turku region guy originally from Raisio. I’ve had a like-dislike relationship with the area for years, which every now and then has sent me to live abroad, but every time I’ve returned with energy to make the place a better and more creative space, one step at a time. This has lead me to take part in projects such as TEDx Turku and HUB Turku, as well as numerous other local development projects.

What do you do?

I’m a bit of a jack of all trades but currently I work as a design technologist, which means that I combine design methodologies and technological know-how to create easy-to-use and attractive products and services. I’m also at the verge of moving from a sole entrepreneur to running a limited company which is super exciting and definitely a process that will teach a lot.

Currently I mainly work with Salo based front-end focused software company Gavon as well as my own business.

What interests you?

People interacting with each other and their environment, all forms of art and crafts, following scientific news, reading and watching science fiction, learning new skills, building stuff, coffee brewing, gardening… the list goes on since I’m easily captivated by all kinds of things 😀

Your talent

I’m a quick learner and adopt to using different tools, thinking patterns and technologies pretty easily. The downside is that I’m not able to create routines that well, unlike most other people can.

Tell your story with HUB Turku

It all started at an event at Spark Up about two years ago focusing on creating a makerspace in downtown Turku, which was held by Annaliisa and Artturi. During that event I happened to have a chat with Peter, who was gathering a group of people interested in making HUB Turku happen, and while heading home Peter convinced me to join the mission.

After that event life’s been full on hubbing, with a few drops of sweat and tears, and a lot of support from all kinds of awesome people, but I think we are now on to something far bigger than any of us! Which is pretty neat considering that we have been doing this with quite a limited amount of resources and a lot of good will.

Your nature?

Kind, open, slightly introverted but deeply interested in others, reflective (a tad too much sometimes), analytical, exploring, artistic, nature loving.

I get happy about

Spending time in the nature, making things, having deep and meaningful discussions, making art.

I get annoyed by

Broken and scattered workdays, I really like diving deep to my work and nowadays it’s been quite a bit of just running from place to place.

I get calm with

Sleeping a good nights sleep, reading a good book, writing down my thoughts and feelings

If I was a superhero, what kind of super power would you have?

I’ve always dreamt of flying, so if I could be a superhero I’d definitely just be flying to places all the time, or teleport, that would also be pretty awesome.

Meet the Hubbers: Joachim Ramström

Kuka olet?

Jocke, tai Joachim, rippuen millä kielellä keskustelua käydään.

Mitä teet?

Liian paljon. Päätyöni on Turun kauppakorkeakoulussa Porin yksikössä.

Mikä sinua kiinnostaa?

Ihmisten innostaminen, ihmisten valtaistaminen. Haluan lisätä jokaisen ihmisen rohkeutta ja uskoa omiin kykyihinsä. Olen perin innostunut oppimisen uudistamisesta – koitan edistää oppimisen vallankumousta. Tekeekö se sitten minusta vallankumouksellinen?

Osaamisesi/talenttisi

Nopeutta, nopeutta, nopeutta. Aika ei vaan mitenkään riitä.

HACK my HUB Kitchen renovation

Although we love our Hubbers <3 , we decided to have a little break from introducing them and let you know about our kitchen renovation we had last Sunday (11.3.).

HACK my HUB Kitchen renovation marathon started at 10 am and the Hubbers were excited about the renovation. There were many fantastic ideas for the design and together the Hubbers decided to use recycled materials. Most of the materials came to the Hub as donations. We want to thank everyone who donated materials for the Hub – you are amazing! <3

We didn’t get all the materials so called “ready-to-go”, but that didn’t stop our creative and capable Hubbers to customize what we had into what we needed. For example we had a lot of wood that the skillful Hubbers turned into kitchen work surface.

We also painted some walls around the Hub. The lobby is now bright, inviting and ready for picture frames. We had an idea of putting pictures of all the Hubbers into the lobby to welcome everyone coming to the Hub. If you want your picture on the wall, please contact board member about it.

The renovation atmosphere was great all day – everybody helped each other out and worked together for fabulous Hub kitchen. Juhani (Hubber/board member) said: “Time flew. It was already very late in the evening when I realized what time actually was. This type of physical work was an excellent opportunity for an “office rat” to do something different and useful for our community.”

Hack My kitchen renovation lunchbreak

The kitchen isn’t done yet which is great for those who want to influence the kitchens final design. We’ll let you know when the next hacking time is – so follow our social media or newsletter. 😉

Maybe in the future we’ll have cooking and baking breaks in the Hub. Let us know if you would like to cook or bake with us! 🙂 And what delicious meals you would like to taste in the Hub. 😉

Meet the Hubbers: Annaliisa Salmelin

The most important part of the HUB Turku is the community and its members. They all have different skills and personalities, which makes the HUB an even more exciting working place. Today we are introducing Annaliisa who also is a member of the Hub board. Come and meet us also in face to face. We will welcome you with a smile!

Meet Annaliisa

Who are you?

Well I’m Annaliisa at formal but most prefer Annukka.

What are you?

I’m Senior Service Designer and entrepreneur at A45-Aneljäviis (a45.fi). My background is in industrial and conceptual design and after becoming an entrepreneur I have focused only on service design and made a masters degree on Service Innovation and Design at Laurea, graduating in 2014.

Your interests?

I’m intrigued by people and how they behave when choosing a service or a product. How they make the decision? Which things influence in the decision? Why I choose this and you choose to chose that and that kind of thing. I guess I could say that the interaction and observation of people behavior keeps me interested on developing better services. We are all individuals and should be served that way as well.

Your talents?

My strength lies on empathy, visualisation skills and controlling/seeing the big picture while developing strategies, services and businesses.

Love story of Hub Turku

My love story for HUB Turku started on 2014 when I and Artturi bump into each other at the same 6aika-seminar. We were both listening criterias for applying 6aika project fundings for both our projects. After the seminar we talked about the Hub and how we could join our forces to make it happen. It took a while but eventually in 2016 it started to take shape. So long story short, this was the first kick-off for me to be involved creating the HUB Turku together.

Your character

I’m radically organised and creative at the same time. I love to do things.  Not just talking but actually getting my hands dirty.

You are delighted, when…

I get to go to the forest which is my source for inspiration and relaxing.

You get annoyed, when…

People are not in time and I or punch of people have to wait to get started.

What makes you stop being angry

Just hugging and saying everything is alright 😀

If you were a superhero what would your superpower be?

My superpower could be able the save all the elders from feeling lonely and abandoned from the society. I could explain this a lot but I won’t. Just leave it here.

Meet the Hubbers: Juhani Koivuviita

The most important part of the HUB Turku is the community and its members. They all have different skills and personalities, which makes the HUB an even more exciting working place. Today we are introducing Juhani who also is a member of the Hub board. Come and meet us also in face to face. You might even get a Hub hug!

Meet Juhani

Who are you?

My name is Juhani. Some people call me also Jussi, Jusu, Juhku, Puhani, Uncle Hani or Onu Jorma. It’s nice to have nicknames, they bring some flavour to the relationships that I have.

What are you?

I’m co-founder and COO in Educraftor. Our company is an innovation and educational development agency. Maybe you’ve heard about Eduhack? We started that hackathon series. In the Hub board I’m the secretary which suits me since I’m a Finnish teacher.

Your interests?

Learning. I work around it, I want to develop the process, I’m learning myself every day. It’s also a topic of which we all have opinions about. What’s your answer to the question: “What is learning?”

Your talents?

Diplomacy. I get along with everyone. Also keeping the balls up in the air. Operational leadership is something that I’m learning constantly.

Love story of Hub Turku

Peter – my good friend and our CEO – invited me to meet the Hubbers. And here we are. I fell in love with the idea of having a place like this in the city center. At the same time I also fell in love with the people. We have a wonderful team behind the Hub and also a powerful community, which keeps getting bigger and lovelier.

Your character

I’m a very positive character. I smile and make people smile. Still, I’m a Finn and I have that romantic melancholy in me. Being very active and social makes me want to balance it out by getting into silence and out of the everyday fuzz. For this I have a summer place with my brother that we visit especially in summer. Music makes me drift away also and my favorite relaxing moment is lying on my living room carpet as an X figure with the headphones on.

You are delighted, when…

someone makes a spot-on joke. I lived almost 10 years in Estonia and was introduced to black humour there. The harder the work day, the darker the humour.

You get annoyed, when…

people don’t know how to move in traffic according to (my) rules, especially as a pedestrian. To me it’s simple: you keep on the right side, you make way if you are more than one and you pay attention to other people around you. Sometimes I fall into “traffic rage” moments and can be huffing and puffing about even the smallest details for a while.

What makes you stop being angry

by saying “I’m sorry”. I think the best way is to confront the problem and be open and honest about it.

And in traffic by staying on the right side of the road and out of my way! 🙂

If you were a superhero what would your superpower be?

I would have an “empathizer” as my weapon to bring more respect and understanding in between people of the world.

Meet the Hubbers: Artturi Elovirta

The most important part of the HUB Turku is the community and its members. They all have different skills and personalities, which makes the HUB an even more exciting working place. Today we are introducing  Artturi who also is a member of the Hub board. Please, don’t be afraid to come and meet us also in face to face! We will be waiting with coffee and tea.

Meet Artturi

Who are you?

I go by many names like Ami, Amppari, Amipami, Paatami, VJ Turu Sanoma, and some others not to mention. My given birthname is Artturi so I think its me. What was the question?

What are you?

Personally I’m a start up, cus I don’t know what I do, but I do it anyway and with great passion and love. No, really, I’m an  some sort of media-artist, future enthusiastic and city activist/developer. I organize events, make video art, miggle with electronics, electronic music  and do crazy stuff. I want my hometown Turku to become the worlds greatest place to live and succeed, together.

Your interests?

I’m interested about culture, arts, science, electronics, music and mind revolution. I believe that we can all-together change the world to better and overthrow poverty. I’m interested to see when we all see the bigger picture and start to build the next phase together aka jobs for everyone to fix this planet. It’s kinda endless task.

Your talents?

I try to think outside of-the-box. I try to tell people to get out-of-the-box and to forget the stupid box. Its only a box and its dark in there.

Love story of Hub Turku

Once upon a time in Turku there were a need for community for electronic enthuastics and I bumbed to some other hobbiest that were into building electronics and we formed a “collective” called Kokomys, kodinkonemusiikin ystävät. I think the year was 2006. Kokomys went on for couple of years and then split up since all went studing and formed families and such. So there were a need for a makerspace in Turku since then. Many things happened in between and I was looking a place where to build the society again and then I met 2016 Peter and Annaliisa and we teamed up to make these things viral again. Just that this time we included the CO-WORKING idea to it all and so HUB TURKU was born. It took like 1,5 years to make things really physical but now rest is history and HUB + MAKERSPACE is alive and kicking!! <3 <3 <3

Your character

Dreamer and realistic. Hyperactive and smoothie. Restless and relaxed in a same word. A round peg in a square hole.

You are delighted, when...

I can spend time with my daughter Helmi. She’s the light of my life and we do all kind of fun stuff together, mostly laughing. Also, I get delighted of wise/brave people and good conversations and innovative action.

You get annoyed, when…

somebody pisses in my cereals. Seriously, that’s not funny.

What makes you to stop being angry

A good laugh!

If you were a superhero what would your superpower be?

Supersight, extra ear, stretching arms, bad breath,  spandex suit (I don’t know if its a superpower but its cool), ability to eat nuclear waste (?).. All the basic stuff.

Meet the Hubbers: Johanna Liipola

The most important part of the HUB Turku is the community and its members. They all have different skills and personalities, which makes the HUB an even more exciting working place. To start off with presentations of Hubbers, here is Johanna who also is a member of the Hub board. Please, don’t hesitate to come and meet us also in face to face.

Meet Johanna

Who are you?

I’m Johanna, they also call me Johu or Jo.

What are you?

I always loved books and papers. That’s why I first printing technology and later on a desire to change the world to a little bit better place made me a designer.

Your interests?

I’m interested in how the world ticks. Other people’s thoughts and minds. I like to explore the city and find different angles of the environment, the nature and the people.

Your talents?

I hope I can boost people with some passion. I like to think that I’m good at listening to people and finding the best parts of them. I also am good at turning ideas into real working concepts, changing a big picture to small pieces and vice versa.

Love story of Hub Turku

I met some of these people a couple of years ago, when I heard them talk about creating a Hub in Turku.  I could really image a place where people can meet with  strangers and talented people to work and have some fun together to make the difference.

Your character

Calm and temperamentful in same person

You are delighted, when…

… when I see something beautiful and well done

You get annoyed when…

people are wasting their time and resources

What makes you to stop being angry

… when I get an apology

… some boxing helps as well

If you were a superhero what would your superpower be?

I would be able to clean all the water in the world. I would be able to clean all the plastics from the ocean and land.  Also I would be able to give some piece of happiness to everyone.
